Drag Reducing Agent (referred to as DRA) can be described as an ultra-high molecular weight polyalphaolefin suspended in a non-aqueous base. DRA is designed to increase flow rate or to reduce energy consumption (pressure drop) in oil pipelines by dampening the turbulent bursts. Pipeline throughput can instantly be increased, or pumping energy consumption (pressure drop) can instantly be reduced by as much as 40% / 50% depending on pipeline and crude conditions by adding a ppm (parts per million) level of DRA into crude or refined products.
